What the vendor is
AgeVerif is an age verification service for websites that must keep minors away from age-restricted content. Its terms state that AgeVerif.com is owned, edited and operated by PlanetSeason Lda, a company incorporated under Portuguese law with its registered office in Funchal, Portugal. The documentation says the service allows adult websites to meet regulators' requirements with a fast check of visitors' age. For a site operator it works as a checker: a window laid over the website offers the visitor one or more verification methods, and the site receives the outcome rather than the visitor's verification data. The webmaster terms govern how clients use the service to estimate and verify the age of their users.
What it sells an operator
The core product is a checker script, which the docs describe as about 5 kB and which the homepage says takes about 5 minutes to add with a single line of code. The script can run on every page, on a specific page or on a user action, and the operator chooses the geolocation of the visitors to check. Plugins cover WordPress, WooCommerce and Shopify. A more complex route uses OAuth2, which the docs say the operator must implement in its own application. Portable verifications let a visitor who has verified on 1 site be recognized on another without a new check, and a webmaster API handles many sites programmatically. Each script key works for one website and its subdomains, and the docs suggest OAuth2 for operators with many sites.
The methods are a selfie with AI-powered biometric analysis, email estimation, double-anonymous estimation through a third-party application, a micro-transaction by 3D Secure credit card, AgeVerif Ticket (limited to France), a French digital identity wallet, PayPal, and a reusable AgeVerif account protected by a passkey. The pricing list also names the partner methods AnonymAGE, AgeKey, Pleenk and AgeGO. The homepage says each method is optional and can be switched on or off in the webmaster portal by the visitor's location.
In October 2026 the homepage lists the selfie, credit card, AgeVerif Ticket, email estimation, AgeVerif account, AnonymAGE, AgeKey, PayPal and European wallet methods as costing the webmaster nothing. Some partner methods carry a price per user who completes the verification: the list shows €0.04 for Pleenk and €0.015 for AgeGO. The webmaster terms say the paid services are billed per user who has successfully completed the process. The terms also say the company may revise prices, and that a change applies only to verifications made after the new rate takes effect.
The terms that decide the choice
AgeVerif is built for adult sites: the documentation opens by calling it a service that lets adult websites comply with regulators, and its FAQ says the checker script stays crawlable, because the verification flow is not shown to trusted bots such as search engines, so an adult site's pages remain indexed. The webmaster terms require the account holder to be 18 or older, or of age in its jurisdiction, and not under guardianship or a similar adult legal protection measure. They set no content rules of their own for client sites, and say AgeVerif does not warrant or take responsibility for the content of its clients' websites. The compliance page states that "the final compliance of the system is the responsibility of the site operator", including national rules and local guidance.
On data, the pages set out specific terms. The homepage says visitors' data is not used for commercial purposes and that verified users are never associated with the sites that request verification. In the double-anonymity route, the third-party partner sends the company an age attestation without the company seeing the verification data. The biometric policy says selfie analysis runs on the user's device, that the system keeps a mathematical representation rather than the original image, and that a random sample of 0.1% of facial landmarks is kept for 1 year for quality control. The company says the sample is anonymized. The compliance page describes a reusable proof-of-age token valid for at most 1 year, and the webmaster terms list a 12-month retention period for most methods worldwide.
Session length is a further point. The compliance page covers how long a verified session lasts, by country. For France it lists 60 minutes under a mandatory rule. For the United States it says no federal or state law sets a maximum session. The page also says a technical buffer is added to the threshold for some estimation methods, which raises the effective threshold without changing the legal age.
Money terms sit in the webmaster terms. Refunds are not given except where the fault lies with the company. A webmaster account can be suspended after a formal notice left unanswered for 15 days, and in cases of serious or repeated breach, termination can come without notice. The company's liability to a webmaster is limited to proven direct damages and capped at the total the webmaster paid in the 12 months before the event. If the AgeVerif website ever stops working, the terms say all webmaster accounts end at once, and termination never gives rise to a refund of earlier payments. As a checker rather than a biller, AgeVerif pays nothing to sites and holds no reserve.
Getting started and support
Onboarding starts with a webmaster account, which the terms say a company can open on behalf of its entity, with the signing person confirming authority. The site then installs the script or plugin and chooses the pages to protect and the methods to offer. The documentation includes step-by-step guides and code examples, and the homepage calls the installation entirely free, with a demo site to see the checker working. Advanced integration runs through a JavaScript API with its own properties, methods and events.
Webmasters reach the company by email for questions, support requests or partnerships, as the documentation FAQ says, and the docs add that AgeVerif is open to partnering with other age verification services that want to plug its solution into theirs. The contact page routes users to a form for account and data questions. The user support terms promise end users a reply within 72 hours, excluding weekends and holidays, and they say no other assistance is owed. The pages link a service status page that reports uptime over the last 90 days. Integration routes are the script, the plugins, OAuth2, portable verifications and the webmaster API.
Company and track record
The company is PlanetSeason Lda, a Portuguese company, and the terms name it as the operator of AgeVerif. The homepage lists certification to the IEEE 2089.1-2024 standard for online age verification, approval from the German body for the protection of minors in the media, a partner badge for the Age Verification Providers Association, a data protection registration certificate and a GDPR badge. The compliance page sets out a set of trust indicators, including the method accuracy and the buffer. The homepage also promises 256-bit SSL encryption of everything exchanged between visitors and AgeVerif, and says visitor data is never used for emailing, resale, rental or sharing with third parties.
Who it suits
AgeVerif is filed under age verification and sells nothing else to an operator. It suits an adult website that wants a free script with methods switched by country, a double-anonymity route for visitors who will not share documents, and an age proof that visitors reuse across participating sites, including those already verified with AgeGO, which a November 2025 blog post says AgeVerif now accepts as a login method. A network of many domains is steered toward OAuth2 or the webmaster API rather than one script key per site. It suits less well an operator that wants volume pricing or a fixed-term contract, since the webmaster terms run open-ended and allow price revisions.
The caveats are that final compliance stays with the operator, that the operator must set session lengths per country, and that the buffer on estimation methods raises the effective threshold above the legal age. AgeVerif's strength is cost: a light script whose core methods are free to the webmaster, backed by a German youth protection approval and an IEEE certification.
